Lately, charity work has been on my heart more than ever. Philanthropic work as a whole has always been something that’s been close to my heart, but unfortunately I haven’t dived as deep into it as I would have liked in the past. However, as Memorial Day approaches I began thinking what better time to start doing more than right now? What can we all do in this very moment to dive deeper into philanthropic works that are closed to our heart?
So I did some research and sticking with the theme, I came up with three of my favorite charities you can volunteer your time for, or donate to, for this upcoming Memorial Day.
This foundation builds homes for both military and veteran families on VA and military medical centers around the world. The Fisher House Foundation allows the families of injured veteran or military stay at these homes free of charge, so that they can be close to their loved ones during their treatment and recovery. According to their website they have served over 30,000 families in 2017, and over 335,000 families since they began in 1990. You can donate here or you can also volunteer at the Fisher homes themselves. You can also donate your frequent flyer miles as well. The miles will be used to transport families to their loved ones in the treatment facilities and homes.
Founded in 2006, Hope For The Warriors helps military and veteran personnel transition back into society. According to their website, “Hope For The Warriors provides comprehensive support programs for service members, veterans, and military families that are focused on transition, health and wellness, peer engagement, and connections to the community resources.” You can donate here, or again, volunteer your time and resources by helping out at their upcoming events.
She S.E.R.V.E.D is an organization that was created with the special purpose of welcoming, thanking, and helping veteran and military servicewomen transition from their deployments. Founded in 2014, She S.E.R.V.E.D. helps more than veteran and military servicewomen with their services, but their main focus is primarily on women as women often have a much different experience than men when they are deployed. You can donate to this organization here.
I am personally hoping to volunteer at one of these organizations this Memorial Day.
With that being said, how will you all be spending your Memorial Day?
